Paediatric Super-Triage Service
This pilot service reviews children’s hospital referrals from East Haringey GPs and agrees on best next steps in care. Each referral is reviewed jointly between a Haringey GP and a paediatric doctor from North Middlesex University Hospital.

Service context
Super–triage is a structured process where paediatric referrals from primary care are jointly reviewed by GPs and consultant paediatricians to agree the best next step in care. The model offers faster access to specialist input, ensuring children are seen promptly and receive the right care in the right place.
This helps avoid unnecessary outpatient referrals, reduces the risk of re-attendance, and improves the experience for families by providing reassurance and continuity of care at an earlier stage.
Super-triage strengthens integration between primary and secondary care, supports GPs with timely paediatric advice, and makes more efficient use of specialist resources.
This pilot is aligned with the NHS 10 Year Plan, the Fuller Report, and the government’s vision for a ‘neighbourhood health service’. It is a key enabler for integrated care for children and young people (CYP), facilitating effective management of cases in the community where appropriate.
About the service
Haringey GP Federation is running a new pilot service in East Haringey – the Paediatric Super–Triage Service.
The Paediatric Super–Triage team review hospital paediatric referrals from East Haringey GPs and agree on best next steps in care. Every referral is reviewed jointly between a Haringey GP and a paediatric consultant from North Middlesex University Hospital.
Aims and Objectives
The idea is to give children faster access to specialist advice, ensuring that they get the right care in the right place.
This helps prevent unnecessary appointments and lowers the chance of patients needing to return to the GP for the same issue due to long waiting times.
It also improves the experience for families by offering reassurance and consistent care earlier on.
When is the service operating?
The service launched on 29th January 2026 and will end in March 2027 with the potential for extension.
